Thanks to the Richmond Flying Squirrels!

Follow Me Dog Training LLC wants to thank the Richmond Flying Squirrels for a fun filled night of dogs and baseball! Although the score wasn’t in the Flying Squirrels favor we had a blast!

A group of dogs and their owners, all members of the Follow Me Dog Training LLC family descended on the Diamond. Frappy, Loki, Odin, Meadow, Tyson, Chloe, Kosmo, Penny, Melvin, Buddy, Annie, Darcey, Stella, Bella, Moose, Georgia, Molly (I know I am forgetting someone!)had a great time. Follow Me Dog Training LLC is very proud of all the dogs that showed up and made it a fantastic night!

I wish that Bark in the Park night was more often! We’ll keep an eye out for more dog friendly events and hope to have a crowd at them as well. Thanks everyone!

Near the end of the game, Frappy and I had the opportunity to chat with the owner of the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Lou Dibella. Lou was a very nice guy and we were so glad he chatted with us and told us about his little Rat Terrier.

Dog friendly opportunities are something to be treasured and we were so happy to see so many well behaved dogs at The Diamond on wed night. I’m looking forward to the next event.

Our friends over at Unleashed Unlimited turned their spotlight on Renée in an interview recently posted on their blog, Unleashed Unlimited. Trainers Paul Sulinski and Tracey Gratz run a phenomenal business in the Austin Texas area.

Renée and Leinie have known them for a few years and even had a small hand in their original training at the That’s My Dog! Inc E-cademy. We are proud to know them and were happy to do this interview. Follow Me Dog Training LLC encourages you to check out their site. They have a lot of cool stuff in their blogs and videos and if you are in the Austin Texas area, check them out!

National Pet Week

National Pet Week is 2-8 May 2010!!! Follow Me Dog Training LLC started off the week with a walk in the park for Fit Dog Fit Nation day. This year National Pet Week is concentrating on health! Obesity and unhealthy habits are an unfortunate reality in both our human world and the dog world.

National Pet Week was jointly founded in 1981 by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Auxiliary to the AVMA, and is widely celebrated throughout the United States and other parts of the world. In 2010, National Pet Week is celebrated from May 2-8.

The goals of National Pet Week are to promote responsible pet ownership, celebrate the human-animal bond, and promote public awareness of veterinary medicine. - http:petweek.org

Walking should be an important part of every dog’s life and we are their partners in this task. I good brisk walk helps them and us. Try to build up to a 45 minute walk a day, or two 20 minute walks a day. I guarantee your dog will be better behaved and more tired. Oh and if you jog/run with your dog, make sure they are at least a year old and you start slow, they need to build up their stamina as well. ***Also please talk to your vet if you are looking to start a sport or running habit with your dog..start off on a healthy paw!

Make sure the games you play with your dogs are healthy and safe. Games such as fetch, search and catch are wonderful games to teach your dog. One of my favorite games though is to call the dog between two or more people while teaching the dog your names! Just think how brilliant your friends will think your dog is if you say “Go find Mom!” and off he goes!

Feeding a good diet is important to health. I choose to feed my dog Life’s Abundance. It is a healthy nutritious food. In the foods I feed my dogs, I want there to be no corn, low levels of grains and absolutely no by-products. I encourage everyone to make an informed decision about the food you feed your dog, it makes a difference in so many aspects of the dogs world from manners and behavior to what you are picking up at the end of the day.

Flea and tick preventatives are also part of keeping your dog healthy! After a romp in the woods, be sure to look for ticks. Talk to your vet about the appropriate treatment.

You can go hiking, biking, walking, running and swimming with your dog! All these activities will help create a unique bond between you and your dog! If your dog is too out of control to enjoy these activities….contact Follow Me Dog Training LLC for a FREE evaluation in the Richmond Virginia area!
